Sudama was a poor brahmin who had studied alongside Krishna in their boyhood. Years later, burdened by poverty, his wife urged him to visit his old friend, now the king of Dwarka. With nothing to offer but a small bundle of beaten rice, Sudama set out, ashamed of his humble gift.
When Krishna saw his childhood friend at the palace gates, He ran to embrace him, seated him upon His own throne, and washed his tired feet with His own hands. Spying the hidden bundle, Krishna eagerly ate the simple rice, delighting in the love with which it was given.
“It is not the size of the offering, but the love within it, that reaches Me.”
Sudama returned home having asked for nothing — yet found his humble hut transformed into a palace. The Lord had answered the unspoken prayer of a loving heart. True wealth, the story reminds us, is devotion itself.
