Sri Krishna is known by countless names, and each one celebrates a particular pastime, quality, or relationship. Govinda means “protector of cows.” Madhava means “sweet as honey.” Damodara recalls the time mother Yashoda tied a rope around His waist. Murari means “enemy of the demon Mura,” and Giridhari means “lifter of the hill.”
“By chanting His holy names, one comes closer to the Lord than by any other path.”
The famous Vishnu Sahasranama lists a thousand names of the Lord. Devotees believe that each name carries the full presence of Krishna — so even uttering one with love is a complete prayer.
